The Printmaking Studio at SMCC is housed in Ebcot Center, an energy efficient building constructed by SMCC students in the 1970's. The studio has two etching presses, a Conrad E-24" and a 12" Etan. With a maximum of 15 students per class, our introductory course, Printmaking I, covers monotype, relief printing on woodblock or linoleum, collagraph, drypoint and intaglio. Printmaking II expands on these methods and adds photo based techniques such as pronto plates and xerox lithography. All classes meet for five hours a week with ten hours of additional open studio time available for independent work. Students have exhibited their prints in the campus library and tech building, in SMCC publications, and off campus at the Mayo St. Art Center and the Westbrook Animal Refuge League. Graduates of the program have gone on to study at USM, Maine College of Art and Montserrat College of Art.
